Reconstruction of the mandible in patients with malignant of orofaryngeal area

Summary. This article provides literature overview devoted to the problem of reconstruction of mandible in patients with malignant tumors of oropharyngeal area. Microsurgery achievements, development of new synthetic implants and tissue engineering technologies have significantly increased possibility of replacement of segmental mandible defects and improved functional and aesthetic results of plastic surgery. Modern methods of mandible reconstruction have been reviewed and their strengths and weaknesses discussed.
