EDITORIAL POLICY

The editorial policy of the journal «Clinical Oncology» is based on international principles of publication ethics and academic integrity. In its work, the editorial board follows the recommendations and standards of leading international organizations in the field of scientific publishing, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Integrity (DORA).

The editorial board adheres to the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics regarding the prevention of plagiarism, falsification, and fabrication of research results, ensuring the transparency of editorial procedures, proper peer review, and the resolution of potential conflicts of interest. All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo an independent peer review process.

The journal’s founder and the administration of the National Cancer Institute do not interfere with editorial policy, the peer review process, or publication decisions.

Editorial Policy Principles:

  • Independent selection of submissions based on their scientific merit and quality of presentation, regardless of the author’s identity or institutional affiliation, and without racial, religious, or national bias;
  • adherence to ethical principles, combating plagiarism and data fabrication;
  • single-blind peer review: the reviewer knows the author’s last name, while the author does not know the reviewer’s name;
  • collegial decision-making regarding publication;
  • openness in communication with authors at all stages of manuscript review;
  • compliance with copyright and related rights in accordance with applicable law;
  • absence of conflicts of interest between authors, reviewers, and the editorial board;

Editorial Board’s Commitment

The Editorial Board is responsible for the publication, making fair and impartial decisions, ensuring a transparent and unbiased peer-review process, and protecting the confidentiality of the personal data of authors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board in accordance with applicable laws and international data protection standards.

The editorial board accepts for consideration materials that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication in other journals. The editorial board has the right to reject or return articles to authors for revision if they do not correspond to the journal’s subject matter, are formatted without adhering to requirements, or as a result of reviewers’ comments.

All members of the editorial board serve as reviewers. The review of all materials accepted for consideration is single-blind: the reviewer knows the name of the author whose materials they are reviewing, while the author is not informed of the reviewer’s identity.

The editorial board guarantees that materials not accepted for publication will not be used for the personal benefit of editorial board members.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviews are conducted by experts who hold academic degrees, have relevant experience, and have published in peer-reviewed journals in the journal’s subject area. Reviewers conduct a scholarly evaluation of manuscripts; their actions must be impartial with respect to the authors of the manuscript or the institutions where the authors are employed.

The reviewer treats the manuscript as a confidential document and may not share or discuss it with third parties who do not have authorization from the editorial board.

The reviewer is obligated to submit a review of the manuscript in a timely manner (no later than 2 business weeks).

All comments provided by the reviewer must be well-founded and fair, without bias toward the author.

The reviewer is not permitted to use materials received for review for personal purposes.

If the reviewer detects signs of plagiarism or substantial similarity between the material submitted for evaluation and any other published article or manuscript, they must immediately notify the editorial board.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors’

All materials submitted to the editorial board must be formatted in accordance with the journal’s requirements, which are available on the publication’s website.

Authors are required to comply with Ukrainian legislation on the protection of intellectual property rights, as well as the principles of academic ethics.

Authors guarantee that: the materials submitted to the editorial board have not been previously published and are not under consideration by other publications; the list of co-authors includes only those individuals who made a substantial contribution to the writing of the article and approved the version of the manuscript submitted to the editorial board.

Authors bear personal responsibility for the accuracy of research results, the precision and completeness of references, including to their own previous works. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.

Authors must disclose potential and actual conflicts of interest related to the manuscript. If the editorial board discovers that authors have concealed potential or actual conflicts of interest, this may result in the rejection of the manuscript for review and publication.

Authors must indicate sources of funding (government programs, grants, etc.) and other support for the manuscript, if any.

Політика щодо етичного схвалення досліджень

Редакція журналу «Клінічна онкологія» дотримується принципів академічної доброчесності та етичних стандартів наукових досліджень і вимагає від авторів рукопису дотримання вимог чинного законодавства України.

Reporting researches with human subjects, indicate whether the research procedures followed standards of local ethical committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional) or with the Helsinki Declaration (1975, amended in 2008) of the World Medical Association. If doubt exists local ethic review, approved the doubtful aspects of the study, must be presented.

When performing experiments on animals or animal tissues, authors should seek approval by local ethic committee and should strictly follow the institutional and national guide for the care and use of laboratory animals. At time of manuscript submission, authors should provide information on the study approval by local ethical committee.

The publications should be submitted only in case when patients presented written Informed Consent to participate and if local ethical committee approval of the study can be documented (presenting ethical approval). The relevant information should be included in the «Materials and Methods» section and, if necessary, provided upon request by the editorial board.

The editorial board reserves the right to reject a submission if the lack of ethical approval or a violation of ethical standards calls into question the scientific and legal soundness of the study.

Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Enabled Technologies

Authors may use AI tools exclusively as auxiliary tools, specifically for the technical processing of manuscripts (grammar and style checks, text structuring, linguistic editing, etc.).

The use of AI to generate the scientific content of a manuscript (conclusions, interpretation of results); fabrication or falsification of data; automatic generation of reviews; or concealment of AI use in cases where its application is significant is not permitted.

Authors are required to disclose the use of AI or AI-supported technologies if they were used at any stage of manuscript preparation in the “Materials and Methods” section, specifying the name of the tool, the purpose for which it was used, and the nature of the functions performed.

Other Editorial Policy Matters

Manuscripts are published in the order in which they are received.

The journal «Clinical Oncology» is published four times a year (quarterly).

The submission deadlines for articles are as follows:

Issue I – by February 28.

Issue II – by May 31.

Issue II – by August 31.

Issue IV – by November 30.

Publication of articles in the journal «Clinical Oncology» is subject to a fee.
