The editorial board of the journal «Clinical Oncology» strictly adheres to the principles of transparency and academic integrity and follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools and supporting technologies in scientific publications.
Guidelines on the Use of AI for Authors
- AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. Full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality and ethical compliance of the manuscript rests with the human authors.
- Authors may use AI tools during manuscript preparation to check grammar and style, structure the text, perform linguistic editing, etc. Results generated by AI must not be used without proper verification and editing by the author.
- The use of AI to generate the scientific content of a manuscript (conclusions, interpretation of results); fabrication or falsification of data; automatic generation of reviews; or concealing the use of AI in cases where its application is significant is not permitted.
- Authors must clearly state in the ‘Materials and Methods’ section which specific AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude) were used in the preparation of the publication, noting this with the following sentence: «In the process of preparing this article, the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] for [PURPOSE]. After using the specified tool, the author(s) independently checked and edited the text and bear full responsibility for the content of the publication».
- The use of AI to create illustrations or graphs must be clearly stated. It is strictly forbidden to use AI to create fake images or fabricate data.
- If AI was not used at all in the preparation of the manuscript, this can be stated as follows: «No artificial intelligence was used in the preparation of the manuscript».
Guidelines on the use of AI for reviewers and editors
The use of AI tools for auxiliary tasks (grammar checking, brief text summarisation) is permitted provided that the confidentiality of the manuscript is maintained.
Reviewers must maintain complete confidentiality; they are not permitted to upload other people’s manuscripts into AI tools. This violates the author’s right to confidentiality and the principles of intellectual property, as data uploaded to AI becomes part of its training database.
AI tools must not be used for the scientific review of a manuscript. Reviews generated entirely by artificial intelligence will not be accepted, as they lack expert analysis.
Any manuscript evaluation prepared with the involvement of AI is subject to mandatory independent analysis by a reviewer.
The editorial board reserves the right to request additional information from authors regarding the use of AI and to demand clarification or correction in the event of any violations being identified.
