Functional outcomes of low anterior resections of the rectum

Summary. This research work is dedicated to improvement of functional results of the sphincter-preserving resection performed for the distal rectal cancer. Clinical, manometric and radiologic features of neorectum functioning in different terms after low anterior resections of the rectum in 135 patients are determined in this research work. Benefits of reservoir colorectal and coloanal constructions after low anterior resections for distal rectal cancer were proved based on obtained data and quality of life evaluation. New type of reservoir stapled side-to-end anastomosis was proposed and effectiveness of it applying was proved. In the dissertation the need for additional treatment of low anterior resection syndrome in the patients with end-to-end colorectal anastomoses was determined.
